Endowment

“Establishing an endowment at HMJDS was our way of supporting the school and its mission over the long term. We are confident that our investment will provide HMJDS with the resources to educate today’s students, as well as generations of future learners and leaders.” – HMJDS Endowment Fund Holder

The goal of our Endowment and Planned Giving program is to provide for the long-term needs of our school. By supporting programmatic growth, teaching excellence, state-of-the-art facilities, technology, and the myriad of other factors that make HMJDS an exceptional school, we can ensure that HMJDS remains strong and vibrant for generations to come.

There are many ways to make a long-term commitment:

  • Establish or contribute to an existing unrestricted Endowment Fund – The school will have the discretion and flexibility to use the earnings from the fund for a variety of evolving needs.
  • Establish a Designated Fund – The donor selects a particular area of programming to support annually. This could be a specific academic area, scholar-in-residence program, capital improvements, technological enhancement, library acquisitions, etc.
  • Establish a Donor-Advised Fund – The school will present to the donors for their approval a variety of options to choose from for support from the fund’s earning.

And there are a variety of tools to consider in your estate planning:

  • Charitable Bequest – This is the simplest form of planned giving. You specify in your will precisely what you wish to leave the school. This can be a dollar amount, a percentage of the total estate, or a specific asset.
  • Charitable Gift Annuity – You can provide yourself income now, and leave a meaningful gift to the school at the end of your life. There are significant tax advantages in considering this option.
  • Charitable Remainder Trusts – This is a more complex vehicle that allows for income to a beneficiary for a prescribed period of time or until the death of the beneficiary, at which time the assets are wholly owned by the Day School.
  • Charitable Lead Trust – In this planned giving vehicle, a sum of money is given to the school from which the earnings are used by the school during the lifetime of the donor. At the moment of the donor’s death, the assets pass on the beneficiary or beneficiaries named by the donor.

You do not have to be wealthy to help.  You can begin with a small initial gift which can grow over time and ultimately provide important and needed funding for the school.
